Graduating from med school is no way a small feat, and graduating from med school alongside your mother is even a great one.
This mother-daughter duo, (mom) Dr. Kudji – Family Med, and (daughter) Dr. Kudji general surgery is both making history as the very first due of mother-daughter to have made this feat happen.
The University of Medicine and Health Sciences (UMHS) reports that both of them, Dr. Cynthia Kudji & her daughter, Jasmine, were matched at LSU Health in Louisiana after receiving their medical degrees–Cynthia Kudji in Family Medicine and Jasmine Kudji in General Surgery.
The smiles on their faces tell it all. They both were very elated after receiving their rewards for years of consistent hardwork.
Cynthia earned her medical degree in St. Kitts and Maine from UMHS and her daughter, Jasmine Kudji obtained her M.D. from LSU School of Medicine in Louisiana, according to Because of Them We Can
Dr. Cynthia Kudji is originally from Ghana, West Africa. She has always had the ambition of wanting to study for her medical degree. She had to put that dream on hold when she got pregnant with her daughter, Jasmine. She however, went ahead to complete her Nursing program and worked as an RN for many years before deciding to go to medical school.
She mentioned that she was inspired watching television shows like the “Cosby Show”, and “A Different World” where she had wondered if she could become a doctor too, or perhaps not too smart to be one.
However, traveling back home to her country Ghana opened her eyes to the opportunities that exist. She touched on the challenges that she faced as an older student, and not having her daughter close by, but how she managed to scale through the challenges to make her dreams come true.
Dr. Cynthia Kudji talked about her she found support in her daughter, and how they cried together, laughed together and shared the moments from their medical schools together. This support and closeness that she shares with her daughter definitely goes a long way to connect her to what matters the most .
