Growing up in a developing locality like mine is not easy especially if you have to be in constant contact with the rich folks you will be left to think your creator was partial in his creation or that u are at a disadvantage end.
Growing up in such an environment if not careful might lunch you into envy, competition, and all that not which may lead you soiling your hands just to Meet up with standards or make a name for yourself and family due to pressures from life challenging situations and from peers.
1. My Immediate Environment
Evidence of this is since everywhere in our community as many young, talented, young boys and girls full of potentials divert from the course of destiny to an unexpected detrimental end that has left them in regrets still date.
You find young guys into Yahoo, young girls into prostitution ending up as usage mother’s, some in local theft and all that not due to the pressures of life.
Me not being indifferent in the aspects of challenges faced but been different in the path chosen to hang and abide on to! all thanks to my primary School teacher Mrs. Biele who gave me three pieces of advice that changed and shaped my views about life.
Your environment and the surrounding situation don’t make you. Sitting on an old wooden chair in her office those words echoed in my head as I replied timidly how! She said God never makes mistakes he is so precise and clear in anything he does.
She said been born in a ghetto is no big deal but cultivating the ghetto mentality is. She said the first sign of change starts from your mind it’s the mentality you approach life with that determines your reality and achievements. Failures fail not because of their location but mindset and ability to dare what your mind concieved.
She ended the point with this” son dream beyond your fears let your imagination go wild and then take the bold step and dare your fears” your environment is just a container and u are the content you can change the design of the container if you so wish by making yourself a valuable content.
2. A Good Name Is Better Than Money.
I smiled nodding my head in disagreement as I replied ma’am money is above all. She said through money is good and in fact answers to everything but” a good name” is greater than riches. She said the reason behind our corruptable, degrading society is based on man’s quest to acquire more of everything without caring if others are hurt in the process.
Every great man that ever existed in history never saw the money they saw a problem to solve which earned them the name they have today. She added money doesn’t give happiness but touching and affecting lives is the key to happy and unending greatness. She asked do u want to be great and remembered in history? son goes looking for a name, not money.
Look for a problem in this very ghetto and solve start small. It’s not how fast but how far and remember speed doesn’t escalate to 120 and above its starts from 1 increasing upward. She ended saying let the process of time refine you and give in to the school of life pass each class never skip any, cause it’s detrimental and disastrous at the end. Learn and be patient.
3. Be the Change You Want to See.
Looking at me straight in the eye she asked what is it about this environment you don’t like? What makes you angry anytime you are associated with the ghetto name.
I listed a number of things I hated and felt angry about then she said go ahead and change it! Wow what a permission I imagine myself no money,no family reputation, nothing at all. She said all those things you have listed are your reason for been born in this ghetto and you are born to change it.
Your ability to recognize these problems is a signpost to destination and the ability to affect these changes in this environment.
You should be the change you want to see start with yourself become a visible change and it will dawn on the others that there is a need to join this visible proof, be different and stand out from the crowd, never be afraid to take a stand. Stand for what you believe, stand for the change you seek and desire.
Lastly, note all these changes you desire on a piece of paper read it each day and be motivated by them. Those words sang deep down in me and cost a great reflection in me as I pondered on those words for hours and began painting a clear picture for the future I desired.
4. My Dream.
As odd as it may seem I dream of a world where everyone is has free access to education, where everyone can be equal though it sounds impossible but it’s achievable.
Firstly I envisioned the development of company whose focus is the production of low cost bioorganic fertilizers which is environmental friendly and very affordable for the indigenous rural population which are scattered all over African continent where agriculture is the main form of livelihoods.
Despite their efforts, hours, and income spent on cultivating a particular farm they end up harvesting a very minute harvest that can not even cater to their family needs to talk more about making income from it.
Not limited to my country I came to discover this a global problem: declining in agricultural productivity which is a function of overuse of inorganic fertilizers and poor farm management techniques which had lead to global hunger which is a key problem highlighted on the United Nations sustainable development goals number
Africa as a whole is most hit by this problem with countries such as Ethiopia, Sudan, Somalia facing a severe hunger crisis.
Secondly I intend forming a network of acedemia made of persons who understand the importance of education and know it is a key role advancing and developing our African continent and the world at large.
The network Will be engaging in sponsoring, mentoring, and training selected young and passion-driven yet financially disadvantaged individuals who seek to be agents of change and leaders in bringing about a revitalization of the African continent.
Growing up from a background like mine I know what it means to be passionate about education but lack finance to pursue it that’s why I want to bridge this gap by empowering as many as I can. I believe if I raise one person up and the person raises another person up and the chain keeps on building in no time everyone will be empowered and knowledgeable.
Remember education doesn’t just train you a in particular field but opens up your mind to think, dream, and understand the complexity of our world and be more tolerant.
Lastly my passion for nature has driven me to think out of the box and try to afford certain solutions to global environmental problems amongst which global warming and climate change. After careful pondering I came up with an innovative idea .
The atmospheric transducer. Imaginatively I imagine this device to be able to act as an interface between the atmosphere and the Earth’s surface. How does it work its main function is to break the bonds in the man-made greenhouse gases released on the earth’s surface to the atmosphere and release these gases in their original normal states to the atmosphere.
This will be made possible by creating a magnetic attraction or affinity for gases on this device according to their various wavelengths.
I believe with this device in place together with other measures put in place to fight climate change it will be a huge success in the nearest future.added to this am working on an idea to develop an NGO for the protection and restoration of mangroves and the development of the livelihoods of the fisheries community.
Well those dreams and plans sounds crazy I guess so far been able to earn a BSc degree in Geography and intend advancing to a PhD. All this is in preparation for the pursuit of my dreams added to this I have developed proposals and business plans to solicit fundings to startup.
One thing is certain if you can dream it you can achieve it all what is needed is hard-work, consistency, patience, deligence and of course self development. Remember dreaming isn’t the issue but translating it to a clear action plan which is achievable and timely is of essence.
